Themed attire is strongly encouraged. Featured activities and experiences will only add to the vibe as you become the main character in an evening so absurd Ludacris will have to change his name.

Each year, firefighters from across Florida come together in Ocala for the Florida Fallen Firefighter Memorial. This year’s ceremony will take place on Friday, November 15, at the Florida State Fire College. It’s a meaningful day, offering closure to many who cherish the memories of a lost loved one.
The evening before the ceremony, on Thursday, November 14, 2024, at 7 p.m., we gather downtown. We walk in a parade, enjoy a concert on the square, and share a drink in remembrance. It’s a time to reflect on how fragile life is and how quickly it can be taken away.
You’re invited to join us for this special celebration as firefighters fill the streets with the sounds of bagpipes and drums. If you’ve attended in the past, you know how awesome this event is. If you haven’t, mark your calendar, you won’t want to miss this one-of-a-kind tribute.

Event Details
Tennessee Williams’ classic drama “The Glass Menagerie” is live on stage November 7-24, 2024 at Ocala Civic Theatre.
In 1930s St. Louis, faded Southern belle Amanda Wingfield (Alexis Medina) lives in poverty with her two grown children in a dingy apartment. She yearns for the comforts of her youth as a debutante in Mississippi and often lapses into rose-colored stories of better days. Almost obsessively devoted, this middle-aged mother both resents and clings to her children.
Son Tom (Mark Burdette) has unwillingly supported the family since his father abandoned them. Frustrated by his job at a shoe warehouse, Tom aspires to be a poet. But he struggles to write, instead seeking escape from reality in alcohol and movies. Sleep-deprived and irritable, the burden of his obligations to his mother and older sister weighs heavily upon him.
Daughter Laura (Hannah Brannon), as fragile as her collection of glass animals, is crippled both by shyness and a limp that lingers from a childhood illness. She dropped out of high school and feels incapable of making her own way. Feeling inferior and fearful of life beyond her small sphere, Laura has isolated herself in a world of her own creation, withdrawing into music.
When Tom brings coworker Jim O’Connor (Caleb Lowe) home to dinner, Amanda sees this “gentleman caller” as a suitor for Laura – and a dream come true for the family. A once-popular athlete and actor in high school, Jim was a golden boy who hopes to shine again. But no one is more hopeful than Amanda, whose illusions are doomed to be shattered.
This 1944 drama by Tennessee Williams launched him from obscurity to sudden fame as one of the 20th century’s legendary playwrights. The most autobiographical of all his works, “The Glass Menagerie” won the New York Drama Critics’ Circle Award as Best American Play. Tender and tragic, this ethereal memory play is a classic of American theatre.
“The Glass Menagerie” is directed by Eb Madson. Scenic and projections designer is Kyle Ransbottom. Costume designer is Amanda Jones. Lighting designer is Xuewei (Eva) Hu. Sound designer is Jazmine Whipple. Props designer is Courtney Curtis. Stage manager is Nicole Thomas.
“The Glass Menagerie” is live on stage November 7-24 at Ocala Civic Theatre. There will be 15 performances: Thursdays and Fridays at 7:30 p.m., Saturdays at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., and Sundays at 2 p.m.
Tickets are $35 for adults and $17 for ages 18 and younger. This show is rated PG. Buy tickets online any time at www.ocalacivictheatre.com. To buy tickets through the OCT box office, call (352) 236-2274 or visit Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

STARLIGHT STUDIO is back to light up the night!
For “The Glass Menagerie,” dates are November 8, 15, and 22. The amazing, energetic, and charismatic Sean-T joins us all three nights to provide classic live jazz from the show’s 1930s era. You’ll remember Sean-T from our “Escape to Margaritaville” Starlight Studios and block party.
VenRosas Rollin Bistro food truck will be with us on November 8 and 22. They’ll be serving up delicious Italian quesadillas with a variety of fillings: cheese, sausage, meatballs, ribeye, chicken, and a vegetarian option with mushrooms, black olives, and peppers. And of course, you can purchase cocktails, wine, beer, or anything you like from concessions all three nights to enjoy along with the smooth and swinging serenade of Sean-T.
Come for STARLIGHT STUDIO, then stay for the show at 7:30 p.m. Or you can always join us just for the music! You’ll be enchanted by these cool autumn evenings on the “front porch” of the theatre.
STARLIGHT STUDIO is a great evening with free live music in the lobby, a food truck under the portico, and cocktails from concessions. This season, it will be held on Fridays from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. during Mainstage shows

Growing up on sharecropper land in Camden Mississippi in 1945, inspired by his family’s deep devotion to spirituals and gospel on Sundays, and blues and R&B on Saturdays! John dreamed of one day playing with the Legendary Muddy Waters!
Moving to Chicago in 1963, he started on that path of becoming a great bluesman, wanting to meet and play with his idol. Getting his first steady gig in 1974 at the Legendary Theresa’s Lounge on the south-side of Chicago, he was taught by the BEST! Sammy Lawhorn, Jr. Wells, James Cotton, Buddy Guy, and many more! Then he joined forces and played in Willie Dixon’s band, where he became so good his dream came true when his idol, Muddy Waters called for him to lead his band in 1981! Here he learned priceless slide guitar lessons and how to be a band leader. He couldn’t believe that all his hard work took him all the way to the top!
After Muddy’s untimely death, he joined up with Magic Slim & The Teardrops for 13 years, traveling all over the world! While John played with Magic Slim they were awarded many W.C. Handy Awards for the best blues band in the world! They developed the “Chicago lump style” blues that is used by so many today!
John paid his dues and in 1995 he began leading his own band. He has recorded more than 15 independent record albums on more than 6 record labels including his own, Blues House Productions and has been recorded on more than 68 total recordings on countless record labels (see his website for a full discography). Earning 2 Grammy Nominations, given 2 Lifetime Achievement Awards, winning a Blues Music Award and countless other Nominations, John is a REAL DEAL Chicago Blues Legend!
When he plays he brings all the founding blues fathers back into his music! You can hear them! He is keeping them all ALIVE! They choose him to carry their music into the hearts of the next generation and John is fulfilling this promise to them every day. His Legendary Blues Status is recognized around the world!
Early inspiration came from his family steeped in spiritual, gospel, blues and R&B tradition. As a young boy John’s mother knew he would be a singer, “he came out singing” she would say. John first appeared on stage at the local Baptist church, in his hometown of Camden Mississippi. John was raised with blues records being played by his grandmother. He dreamed of one day playing his guitar on stage with his idol Muddy Water’s.
At the age of eighteen John followed the path of his mentors and migrated to Chicago in the fall of 1963. Once in Chicago, John quickly found the blues musicians and formed a band. After the success of his first band The Maintainers, in 1974 John replaced John Watkins in the house band at the world famous Theresa’s Lounge on the South Side of Chicago. Over the course of the next 7 years, John would play with such originators as Sammy Lawhorn, Junior Wells, James Cotton, Buddy Guy, and Lonnie Brooks, all innovators sculpting the sound of Chicago Blues.
Then in 1979, master songwriter and bassist Willie Dixon invited him to join his band The Chicago All Stars. Traveling through the US, Mexico and Europe, John developed his skills as a rhythm guitarist, a lead-guitar, slide player, and a powerful singer. Another blues master who believed in John Primer was none other than the “Hoochie Coochie Man” himself, Muddy Waters. Muddy recruited John not only as a guitarist, but also as an opening act and bandleader. John stayed loyal to Muddy until his untimely death in 1983.
Fresh off the heels of his success with the Muddy Waters Band, John signed on with the legendary Magic Slim. For the next 14 years, he toured with Magic Slim & The Teardrops, bringing tight, house rocking sounds to every corner of the planet. While John was the bandleader of Magic Slim & The Teardrops, they were voted the best blues band in the world year after year and are still today thought of as the inventors of “the lump”, a style of playing backup rhythm.
In 1995 the veteran blues man released his major label debut “The Real Deal”, on Atlantic Records. Deciding to make it out on his own, he began touring extensively in support of his fourteen solo albums to date, including two CD’s on Blues House Productions, John’s independent record label. John has recorded on several other record labels including: Wolf, Earwig, Telarc, Atlantic, Delta Groove and Raisin Music. He is a songwriter, producer and has taught many other blues musicians.
John Primer has been awarded many awards. He was given 2 Lifetime Achievement Awards in 2013 for Keeping the Blues Alive from the Pennsylvania Blues Society as well as from the Mississippi Valley Blues Society, he has been nominated for a Grammy Award by the Recording Academy in 2010 for Best Traditional Blues Album of the Year, and has been given many nominations year after year by the National Blues Foundation’s Blues Music Awards for the Best Traditional Blues of the Year as well as Best Traditional Blues Musician of the Year. John is one of the last Legendary Traditional Blues Musicians alive today with his roots in Mississippi. He is a living legend and a true master of the blues!

To buy tickets through the OCT box office, call (352) 236-2274 or visit Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

ACT OUT Night
Calling all aspiring actors and performers!
We’ve got karaoke for singers, open mics for stand-up comics, and jam sessions for musicians. But where do actors go to practice and perform?
Introducing ACT OUT Night, a safe and supportive space for actors to shine. Whether you’re an experienced actor looking to try a new character or someone who’s never acted before, this is your chance to take the stage.
Here’s what to expect:
• Acting Performances: For the first half of the evening, it’s all about acting. Bring a monologue you’ve worked on or choose one from our provided selection. Memorized or not, it’s your call. And remember, feedback is entirely up to you—no unsolicited critiques allowed.
• After Party Performances: The second half opens up to other art forms. Sing a Broadway tune, test out new stand-up material, or even perform a bit of drag. This is your time to explore and express.
ACT OUT Night isn’t just about performing; it’s about building a community where everyone feels encouraged and celebrated. So, step out of your comfort zone and join us for a night of creativity, fun, and applause.
Because who knows where it might lead? At the very least, it’s a lot more exciting than performing in front of your bathroom mirror. Let’s ACT OUT together!

To buy tickets through the OCT box office, call (352) 236-2274 or visit Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Event Announcement:

Join the Forest High School Class of 2014 on a Bar Crawl in downtown Ocala to celebrate our TEN-YEAR REUNION!! Friday, November 29th, 2024 at 7:00 PM. Free to attend! Bring your friends!
WHEN/WHERE? Friday, November 29th, 2024 at 7:00 PM in downtown Ocala. The list of bars on the crawl will be announced the month of the event.
WHY A BAR CRAWL? It’s low commitment! No ticket required, no agenda, no awkward icebreakers – just show up with your friends and have a good time! Since this is not a ticketed event, please expect to pay for your own food/drinks.
WHY THE DAY AFTER THANKSGIVING? We want to make this reunion as easy to attend as possible! We hope that folks who have moved out of Ocala will be back in town to visit family/friends during the holiday weekend and won’t have to make a special trip to attend the reunion.
WHO CAN I BRING? Spouses, partners, friends – everyone is welcome! If you have friends from other Forest classes, feel free to bring them along.
ARE KIDS WELCOME? Bring kids at your discretion. No childcare will be provided. We hope that by scheduling this event right after Thanksgiving, most folks will have family in town who can give you a night off.
DO I HAVE TO DRINK? Of course not! Come hang out and enjoy time with old friends.
IS TRANSPORTATION PROVIDED? No, please plan to arrange your own transportation.

Nowhere is that idea more vividly embodied than in the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, which has held the torch of New Orleans music aloft for more than 60 years, all the while carrying it enthusiastically forward as a reminder that the history they were founded to preserve is a vibrantly living history.
