The Webber Gallery of the College of Central Florida invites you to an opening reception for our upcoming exhibition Grafted Roots: Artists Flourishing in the Sunshine State. In Grafted Roots you will see a collection of artworks presented in various styles, media, and presentation methods which serve as a testament to the remarkable range and exceptional talents of our featured artists, many of which are locally well-known and call Ocala home.
The Webber Gallery has the privilege of hosting David Campo as guest curator for this exhibition. Campo’s academic pursuits include an MA in Art History from the University of Georgia, and an MA in Museum Studies from the University of Florida. Campo presently works with Ocala Cultural Arts as an exhibit technician, dedicating his time towards fostering the ever-growing artistic landscape of our community.
“As a guest curator, I am thrilled to have the opportunity to feature my dear friends and talented artists, across Ocala and Gainesville, in my show Grafted Roots: Artists Flourishing in the Sunshine State. The title Grafted Roots is meant to refer to the agricultural technique of grafting sweet orange branches onto sour orange roots in order to increase resiliency to elements, similarly all the artists featured in this show are transplanted from their original homes in one way or another, be it from a different state or just a different town with different people and new experiences. To have the chance to showcase the breadth of Florida artists by sharing diverse stories though varied media is hopefully just the beginning of this budding relationship.” –David Campo
